Description

As an Ops person who interacts with the Dashboard, I would like the ability to quickly cross reference my knowledge repo (wiki, sharepoint, run book, asset management, etc) with a given node, so that I can correlate additional operational knowledge about a node with the Dashboard.

In practice that might be an icon with a per node configurable link.

Ideally there would be a way to give a pattern that would work for all nodes and if you are more explicit by giving a link for a particular node, use that.

Something like global_info_link = “http://myorg.tld/index.php/%s” and we replace %s with the node name.

Nagios does something similar in their WebUI – see http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/objectdefinitions.html#host where they have notes_url

Seems like a solid feature; How important is the ability to have a template for the path compared to the ability to the ability to just attach the data at all?

There used to be a URL column per node in the database, but this was never utilized by Dashboard and removed in #5879. I’m in favor of re-adding it for the purpose of cross-referencing. #11940 also has to do with adding custom documentation to Dashboard.

template for the path would be ideal, but minimally we would want per node URL.
